During the 1950’s the site that Carys Panelbeating currently operates from was a taxi base, servicing cabs from Bondi and the surrounding Eastern Suburbs. Abraham Cary Consent a Dutch immigrant established Carys Panelbeating in 1955 as a one man operation; repairing damaged taxi’s out of the base as his reputation for honest, quality work, grew. Cary began to expand the business, within 10 years took the workshop over from being a taxis base, to a garage focused primarily on panelbeating and spraypainting.
In 1971 John Perkins having emigrated from the UK via South Africa, and having experience working as a welder, coach builder and panelbeating in Jaguar dealerships, began work at Carys Panelbeating. His attention to detail and quality of work was recognised in the area and in 1985 he took over Carys Panelbeating. With a reputation for quality and honest work, the business name remained the same, and in 1996, John’s son Matthew was introduced into the business.
In 2000 Matthew graduated from his apprenticeship and was awarded the Merit Award from the Motor Vehicle Repair Industry Council as the top graduated apprentice in the state of NSW. In 2010 he became an instructor for I-Car Australia, a leader in training and up skilling the collision repair industry. He has trained repairer groups, major insurance companies and TAFEs in the correct and modern repair techniques and is recognised throughout the industry as an expert in correct repair techniques to the modern day vehicle.
Incorporating this level of modern expertise as well as preserving the family values of the business, Matthew and John have built Carys Panelbeating to be recognised as a shop that can offer guaranteed quality and knowledge of the repair process along with the personal contact and customer service that comes with a family run business.
